Guide · Odoo for traders
What Odoo does for a trading business in Gujarat.
If you buy, store and sell goods, your day runs on a few things: orders, stock, invoices and the money owed to you. This page shows how Odoo handles each of them, and where it stops.
A trading day
Six jobs, one system.
The same data sits behind every screen, so a number is typed once and is right everywhere.
Orders
A customer's order is entered once. It goes to stock for delivery and to the invoice, so nobody types it again.
Stock in several godowns
Stock is kept godown by godown. Moving goods from one godown to another is a transfer, and every receipt, delivery and transfer is on one list.
GST invoices
The invoice carries your GST number, the HSN codes and the place of supply. For a customer in Gujarat, the tax is split into CGST and SGST. For another state, Odoo switches to IGST by itself.
Buying
Purchase orders, goods received and vendor bills follow the same path in reverse, with the stock updated when the goods arrive.
Money owed to you
Unpaid customer bills are kept one by one with their due dates, so the ageing report shows who owes you, how much and for how long.
Reports for your accountant
Trial balance, aged receivables, balance sheet, profit and loss and bank reconciliation, set up with your accountant. See them on made-up data.
Is it right for you
When Odoo fits, and when it does not.
We would rather tell you now than in week three.
A good fit
- About 10 to 50 staff
- You run on Tally, Excel and WhatsApp today
- More than one godown, or more than one person taking orders
- An owner or finance head who can decide
Probably not
- Fewer than five staff
- You are already on an ERP that works for you
- Tally already does everything you need
Not in the package
- Filing GST returns: your CA files them from our exports
- Manufacturing with bills of material and work orders: quoted separately
- Payroll, e-commerce and point of sale

Is Odoo free for a trading business?
The Community edition has no licence fee, and it is what we start with. It does not come with the reports an accountant expects, so we add tested open-source ones. The paid Enterprise edition is separate: if you prefer it, we tell you its price per user before you decide.
Can Odoo handle more than one godown?
Yes. Stock is tracked godown by godown, and moving goods between them is a transfer that shows on the same list as receipts and deliveries.
Does Odoo work out CGST, SGST and IGST by itself?
Yes, from the place of supply on the invoice. The rates and HSN codes on our demo are examples, and your CA confirms yours.
Will my accountant still use Tally?
Some do for a while. Odoo gives your accountant the reports they ask for, and we agree the layout with them.
How long does it take to start using Odoo?
About 30 days, when your data is ready and someone on your side can spare a few hours a week.
Are you an official Odoo partner?
No. Codzodd Technologies is an independent company that implements Odoo. We will not claim a partner status we do not hold.
